It's that time of year again, when Randy is looking back at last season's hunts and seeing what useful information he can take in to learn from. In this episode he focuses in on an archery elk hunt in Idaho in early September with Kurt Howard from Rocky Mountain Hunting Calls. Randy has never hunted in Idaho and has never set foot in this area. Going off of some e-scouting he did as well as some intel from others, he picked an area that was about 6 miles back from the trailhead. This proved to be his best decision, because they were able to find elk and not any competition from other hunters. Despite making a great first decision, there were some other lessons that Randy had to learn and relearn especially when it comes to set ups. The set up is often the make it or break it point when it comes to archery elk. Tag along as Randy recollects this hunt, and surely you will walk away with some more knowledge of what to do as well as what no to do on your next hunt.
