In this video, Michael Parente, a self-identified husky and sweaty hunter gives a few tips he has learned about layering while in the mountains. Sweat can be our enemy in the wilderness especially as temperatures start to plummet later in the season.
When Michael "Big Mike" Parente first started hunting out West, he was often freezing cold as soon as he stopped moving. He had to learn the basics of the moisture management. In its most basic sense a layering system consists of a base layer, insulation layer and outer layer.
Michael likes to start his hike a bit chilled in a synthetic layer. Once he starts hiking he warms right up. But once he gets to the top of the glassing knob he puts on an insulation piece to bake the sweat out of his base layer.
